Looking at the Dynamic Sports link provided, I can get entry level Kookaburra bat (Kahuna 150) + pads and gloves for $200. No helmets on the website, but I'll check them out in person when I'm over there.

He will help you pick out a good bat with the right weight for you. Be happy you are buying in Canada btw a similar bat costs $300 in New Zealand. They are distinctly cheaper in Canada in part because the dollar is stronger.
