I'm thinking of moving out of my flat and living in an apartment building like
this one which caters to both students and normal people.
It will be more expensive, and tbh I have a really good deal at my current place, but a few of my flatmates are starting to really frustrate me. The new one does things like use the dryer for her clothes in the middle of summer (thankfully she's stopped that now since my last "wtf are you doing?"), leave the fan in her room on 24/7 instead of opening a window, use up all of our internet before half the month is done, and her boyfriend/fiancee/god knows what now (there's a story here) has been bludging at our place for a couple of weeks now, and tomorrow I'm going to ask him to start paying rent and power. Seriously, at the rate this pair consume power I'll be paying as much to live here as I would at the place above.
My assessment of them is they won't like me asking them to stop wasting power/net or bludging, and my ultimatum is stop being dicks or leave. I can see this ending really well haha.
Another flatmate is having a moan about paying retainer etc over the summer. I'm surprised because he's always been a decent and fair minded bloke so I hope this is a one off. He's paying his retainer after I gave him the riot act so I hope he doesn't act up again.
I'm the one in charge of all the flat finances (God help us all) and tbh I'm not sure I can cope with a year of managing these people if this continues. It's a bit late to find new flatmates now since almost everyone will be sorted for next year and tbh my cynical side says there's probably good reasons why people who haven't found flats yet don't have one.
Does anyone here have any experiences with living on their own as a student? I'm finding myself fantasising about walking through a room without someone camping the TV playing playstation all day, which is kind of sad on my part...
