You probably answered your own question.
I read it, found the whole thing laughable for the most part, and rather sad at the same time. Not from the point of view of Glenn McGrath, but from the perspective of the hack concerned (David Hopps - I've not read a lot of his stuff, but then again I tend to avoid the Grauniad).
Why are we so preoccupied with the Ashes? Hopps had been itching to ask the same, tired question and shouldn't have been surprised when he got the same, tired answer.
McGrath's not being contemptible or contemptuous (well, not here anyway) - he's just telling it like it is "We're here, you're there. Is that all you've got? Bring it on" etc - make no bones about it, he's seen it all before, and so have I.
I've also seen smiles wiped off Vegemite-stained faces before too, but that's another story. No, fair play to the hack - he got his story, but it didn't say anything we hadn't heard before. It could just as easily have been a photocopy of one of the others he quoted as a footnote.
