who you got

this is based on what the selectors could conceivably pick based on their recent work. so boland is stiff to miss out...

Finch
Warner
Watson
Smith
Maxwell
MMarsh
Wade
Hastings
Tye
Hazlewood
Boyce

Khawaja
Faulkner
Pattinson
Lyon

this is, of course, a garbage team. However, I'm feeling #Supernev momentum...

Starc not going to be fit?

It is a team that can win it, but I wouldn't bet on it with that bowling attack.

BARNES OUT
Starc is out. Doubt he'll play again for Australia before the next home summer.

EDIT: Note that I haven't actually looked at our schedule for the second half of the year.

I really don't think Pattinson should be playing T20Is given he hasn't played a T20 game at any level for over a year and was never that good in the format in the first place.. but in saying that I don't really think there are especially good alternatives.

My new team:

1 Finch 2 Watson 3 Khawaja 4 Smith 5 Head 6 Maxwell 7 Faulkner 8 Wade 9 Richardson 10 Boyce 11 Hazlewood

Hastings Lynn Lyon Tye

No Warner is the big call and I think you can tell from players 12-15 im not really convinced on our bowling attack. I like the top 8 battinf tbh, went for Head over Lynn as I think there will be times when being a lefty is an advantage and both bats either side are RH. With Haze in tue side I felt that I needed a good death bowler, if John Wayne can handle it, he replaces Kane.

Yeah I'd been considering Warner out for Finch. Fielding drop off is quite something though.

I dunno, Warner was absolute boss in the IPL while Finch was crawling alone at a piss poor strike rate, twas no surprise the upsurge in the Mumbai team coincided with him getting injured and getting replaced by Simmons.I'd try and get both into my side though.

Zampa ousts Boyce as leggie. Agar another bolter in squad @telegraph_sport @FOXCricketLive

Must mean Lyon is out. Not really sure Agar makes sense unless they think he might be useful at 7 in place of Faulkner at some point?

Nevill leads World T20 squad shocks | cricket.com.au

AUSTRALIA'S WORLD T20 SQUAD: Steve Smith (c), David Warner (vc), Ashton Agar, Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, John Hastings, Josh Hazlewood, Usman Khawaja, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Peter Nevill, Andrew Tye, Shane Watson, Adam Zampa

so they didn't end up picking any of Head/Lynn/Bailey

Surprised they didn't take a flier on Head or Lynn. Possibly a wise move not to pick Lynn because he is not great against spin, but Head would appear to have added quite a bit of value. Did they really need that many right arm seamers?

I'm actually reasonably happy with those eleventh hour changes. I think Nevill being in the side as essentially a specialist keeper (right call) would've contributed to the selection of Agar; it's more important to have bowlers who can reliably hit at the end of the innings if you're picking Nev. Disappointed Lynn didn't make it; I would've gone with him ahead of Khawaja given the amount of other openers in the side.

I really do not like the look of a Warner-Finch-Khawaja-Smith top four tbh.
You reckon Watson will bat lower down then? Or just not play at all? He just tonned up opening so I definitely think he'll be in the top four somewhere tbh. Khawaja will probably end up the reserve batsman.

Watto should be one of the first picked

IMO the selectors have made an unnecessary rod for their own back by picking Smith as captain as he is probably the least qualified of all the batting options in the squad

I agree, he wouldn't be in my team that's for sure.

yeah i agree. hard to fault it too much.

Agar def makes sense as a replacement option if Faulkner stinks it up and they want another spinner.
