Australian Squad Discussion

Somewhat happy with the squad, although I think the batting is a little light, although we should be alright without injuries.
This will be a big test for Nevill, keeping on slow, low wickets. He's very good standing back, but from what I've seen he struggles a little up, although that seems to go for everyone these days.
Not sure about Agar, it seems like compensation for Nevill, and he seems to bowl a lot less these days. Zampa will probably get smashed like most visiting leggies in India.
Would take Khawaja over Lynn any day. Lynn can only open or bat three, and he can only hit on the leg side. Khawaja has more offside shots and I thank can (=/=will) do better in the lower bouncing conditions.

I don't mind the squad in theory as no Wade and no ShaunMarsh is a sound move. Also. I am happy that we aren't picking random T20 journey-man like Tait and Hogg or gone for the Futures player in Paine. I nearly said the same about Boyce, but he really is unlucky, he has done well and I wonder if Boyce makes the squad if Bancroft stumps Raina and Australia win that last T20I.

As others have said, I would have liked to have seen one more big hitting bat in the squad. I just feel as though there will be time when Head or Lynn's ability to hit 6's will be more important than Agar's.

I think we will field this team:

1. Finch 2. Warner 3. Watson 4. Smith 5. Maxwell 6. Marsh 7. Faulkner 8. Nevill 9. Zampa 10. Coulter-Nile/Hastings 11 Hazlewood

12. Agar 13. Hastings/Coulter-Nile 14. Khawaja 15. Tye

It's not a bad squad wit what's available, but I don't see them doing very well at all tbh.

You reckon Watson will bat lower down then? Or just not play at all? He just tonned up opening so I definitely think he'll be in the top four somewhere tbh. Khawaja will probably end up the reserve batsman.
If they don't bat Watson in the lower order, they're incredibly short of people to bat down there. They've always liked Maxwell at 5, people will riot of Khawaja doesn't play but they won't drop Finch, and I don't think they really consider MMarsh a first-choice T20i player.

This squad is so unbalanced; it's all top 3 batsmen and all-rounders. No middle order T20 cake-equivalent:
1. Warner, 2. Finch, 3. Khawaja, 4. Smith, 5. Maxwell, 6. Watson, 7. Faulkner, 8. Nevill

Drop Khawaja and that becomes:
1. Warner, 2. Finch, 3. Smith, 4. Watson, 5. Maxwell, 6. MMarsh, 7. Faulkner, 8. Nevill

Slotting in Bailey at 5 improves the balance so dramatically; I can't understand the MMarsh selection from that POV when they already have a million all-rounders and he's basically the seventh bowler in the team.

You basically need to have a good week to win the World T20, and this Aus side can certainly do that. They might not be absolute favorites (impossible to look past India) but they have as much as a chance as anyone else.

Australia is to T20 World Cups what England is to ODI World Cups. I hold no hopes for us.

Looks like Watson is trying to make our decision easier. Not a hamstring either, obviously saving that up for the main event.

Bit of juice around that Warner could move down the order.

Wouldn't mind it really, especially given how our middle order usually conduct themselves in the middle overs of t20s.

Warner would be the most qualified of that list of top order specialists (Watson, Finch, Smith, Khawaja, Warner) to bat down the order imo. Makes sense, and can't see a better option.
