I kind of think this when he is playing for City but think that is the case of a hard working player functioning well with loads of talented ones, when he plays for England then it is hard look past Scaly's plodder.

Wonder what will happen with Townsend.
Where I've put Henderson is based on the logic that he plays further forward than Gerrard for Liverpool.

Alternatively, with the same XI, you could go:

    Gerrard

    Henderson Wilshere

    Sturridge Rooney Lallana

Reckon that's pretty kind to the Scouse Cafu, as legendary as he is.

Aside from that, can't really argue. The 4-3-3 looks better and suits Hendo/Wilshere better but Sturridge not really a wide-man anymore. I think I'd sooner put Rooney out there.

I'd definitely give Sterling a bench spot over basically any of your backup midfield options.

Yeah, wouldn't fancy Henderson there at all.

    Oxlade-Chamblerlain a better option surely.

Sterling gets in the squad for sure, for me

Yeah, no Feo means an obviously squad spot for Sterling.

Townsend is an odd one. Looked the part in the autumn, but hardly getting a gig for yer Spurts now.

& whatever chance Morrison had has surely gone with him to 'Arry's mob in west London.

Knock is he was frozen out because he refused to sign up with BFS's preferred agent.

Adam Johnson is pretty much a certainty with no width in the squad I reckon.

Yeah, have no idea how I've omitted Sterling from my 23. Would come in at the expense of Welbeck/Rodriguez in the 23 I've named.

I hope they don't play Sturridge out wide. He's England's best player by miles at the moment playing as a striker. Would be this generation's Scholes on the left wing.

I'm surprised given the rate that you guys go through midfielders that Mark Noble has never got a cap or talked about as a possibility of making the squad.

He's always a rock for the Hammers and puts in good performance after good performance. Wouldn't be a bad backup for Gerrard?

I'm a fan of Noble, and have been for years. Think he's a neat progressive footballer, who can keep possession without just going backwards or sideways. He's pretty similar to that other West Ham graduate Carrick. Think he's the type of player who if he was in a bigger side would get a lot more plaudits. He really should be ahead of the likes of Milner and Cleverly for selection IMHO.

but all of a sudden we have a bunch of younger midfielders coming through, who you feel have a bit more talent and scope to improve than Mark.

I wouldn't be displeased if he got a look-in, but I don't see it, and perhaps for the future of the side it's better if he doesn't.

Yeah he would always have been a bit left-field but I don't remember anyone even suggesting it, which is really surprising. Playing for a Fat Sam team really counts against him.

                    Sturridge
Stupidly LFC-centric, but there you go. Gibbs, Shaw, Carrick, Wilshere, The Ox, Barkley and Lallana would all have to be close.

Johnson and Lambert too. Maybe Zaha now that he'll be getting regular playing time.
