If we're going to lump long balls like that in why not play Carroll?

& **** me, bar from Carrick and post from Welbeck.

One of those nights...? Nope, pen.

Finding it harder to dislike England now that they've resorted to just picking United's team.

Ireland are ****.

Plus Carroll would also hold the ball up rather better than Welbeck. Nice goal by DB and all that, but he seems to spend most of the game with the ball bouncing off him. Ditto Lennon. Ditto Walker, whose given a pretty convincing case for Glen Johnson remaining a fixture in the side. You just want Carrick, or Cleverley, or Rooney, or someone to put their foot on the ball occasionally.

BBC4's Squeeze programme is looking more appealing by the minute.

And yes, the keeper should have gone for that assault on Walcott.

The Ox in particular has been incredibly average.

Adrian Chiles too, as ever. Paul Walcott?

Welbeck? I'd have said that's Carroll's trademark. He's a bit like a tree on wheels that you try to hit and hope the ball bounces favourably. Welbeck has a great first touch, despite constantly looking like he's going to fall over and having a hilarious ability to miss literally any chance.

Funny old world - I'd have said the opposite. His finishing is OK, but every time he gets the ball he seems intent on some over-ambitious first-time flick that goes anywhere other than where it's intended.

tbf you've seen more of him than I have..

God Rooney actually hit one for a change, instead of patting into the square millimetre of the goal that the keeper might not being able to cover.

****e. 7-0 would have been average - goal difference is the first decider to split level teams and it's far easier to make it up against teams like that.

Bloody hell Ireland...
Slap it up them, teach them for player poaching. A bunch of England and Scots rejects who drink one pint of guinness and suddenly think that 'Oireland' is the mother land. No doubt the deluded fans will be calling for Trappatoni's head thinking that they should be up there winning every game.8-)

The Welsh are foreigners, tbf. Think "Wales" originates from the old Anglo-Saxon word for foreigners, in fact.
Ah yes, it all comes back now. By a happy coincidence, doesn't the word also bear a striking similarity for the old Roman term for those who practise a unnatural attraction to sheep that goes beyond the norms associated with regular farming methods?

Bloody foreigners apparently.

btw was that the penalty? Or did it happen later?
That was the penalty.

Also Scotland had a perfectly good goal ruled out as well. Not a good night for the officials in that one though the Welsh have waited 35 years for revenge by the sound of it.

As for England, we know nothing apart from the fact they are handily placed in a weak group and should qualify. Could get messy once we are there though as there are so many better sides than us at present.
