Greatest upsets/shock results in WC history

I guess New Zealand and their 1-1 draw with Italy would be up there. Also North Korea knocking Italy out of the 1966 WC should deserve a mention.

If only I had been alive to see the first 3 on that list. They sound indescribably funny.

Loved that one.
Yeah me too, reminded the arrogant French **** who said we didn't deserve to beat Italy as they're soccer royalty about it actually.

Then left the score as wallpaper on the hostel computer...didn't get petty at all about it.

Someone said the Italians were pelted with fruit and vegetables at the airport as soon as they got off the plane. Can't really blame the fans on that one.

Norway beating Brazil was also a great upset.

If England goes out in the first round, it would be one of the biggest upsets ever.

Nah, cause we're ****e, TBH.

Not sure about the republic being there, they'd already beaten (a half-decent) England in a tournament

Was cool, but not a massive shock IIRR.

Norn was great though.

South Korea beating Italy in the second round in 2002 up there for sheer hilarity.

Bulgaria beating Jerry in 94 brings a warm, tingly feeling too. IIRC yer Bulgars had never won a WC game before the 94 finals.

Italy and Germany beating us at the last two WCs were both massive boilovers.

Can't believe how unlucky we've been..

The West Germany one always seemed possilly the most amazing.

Hungary seemed unstoppable and had beaten Germany 8-3 earlier in the tournament.

Final itself is ridiculous with the Germans 2-0 down after 10 minutes.

Typical Germans always stopping the best teams winning.

Portugal 7-0 North Korea. Yeah, Korea is crap, but still.........we didn't expect that they'd thrash them by that much!

1970, 1972, 1982, 1990, & 1996 spring immediately to mind.

Going back to 1954, I read something astonishing the other day about syrringes being found in the German dressing room after the game + rumours of fitness enhancing substances.
