North Korea striker Tae-se Jong has promised to score in every game he plays at the World Cup and lead his country into the knockout stages.

"I will keep my promise of scoring one goal per game," said Jong, who scored both goals in his country's 2-2 draw with Greece in a recent warm-up game.

"In our group it will be Brazil and North Korea who will advance."

I lolled.

And Nani joins the staggering list of PL players ruled out of the World Cup through injury, according to SSN. Has there ever been a Cup where so many big name players have fallen to injury before the tournament?

He looks pretty decent TBF and North Korea play with about 6 defenders.

It slightly burns to see Gilberto still playing for Brazil. Should never have let him leave the Emirates. WAG.

Should probably not be in the Brazil side to be fair, probably better options like ones that can pass.

Haha, being a little harsh on Gilberto there I think. He was by no means cumbersome or lacking in ability with the ball at his feet. Granted he was not the best, but he was capapble of providing an attacking option. Scored lots of goals for Arsenal, some important ones too.

EDIT: Though I would concede that there are indeed probably better options at this stage of his career.

Also, using the word "Democratic" to refer to Kim Jong-Il's personal fiefdom is even more sycophantic than referring to that nutjob who thinks he's in charge of Sealand as "HRH". If a country is so insecure that it wants everyone to call it "Democratic" - whilst banning its citizens from reading any dispute to it, of course - then it can go and salute itself. It began as North Korea, and it can stay that way.
Can confirm that the more highminded qualifiers in a country's official name, the ****tier the country:

See:

Democratic People's Republic of Korea
Democratic Republic of the Congo
Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal
Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (noticing a pattern?)
Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija
Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya
The Land of the Long White Cloud

These Ivorians are a ridiculouslty talented list imo, in all areas apart from keeper but they haven't done jack as a team. Interesting to see what Sven does because you'd think this tournie is now or never for them?

Like I said in the NZ thread, the NZ result plus Ronaldo making an even more embarassing fool of himself than he normally does would kick this day beyond the ' Bloody Perfect' marker.

Oh, and Portugal were pants in qualifying, so high hopes here of them stuffing up. Too bad Ivory Coast have a ***-with-your-socks-on Swede as their coach, so they might well be pants too.

Their performance in the ACN against Algeria in extra time was pathetic, they completely chucked it once Algeria took the lead.

**** me, 2 inches to the right and we could have closed the goal of the tournament competition today.
