Without having any hard evidence to back me up, I'd say those are valid points - I think the build up to this World Cup in the media here has been far greater than for Germany in 2006 from what I can remember anyway.

They will probably go and win it now but looking at the squad Italy look pretty average, lucky they have a fairly easy group.

Getting excited about the match against Slovakia tomorrow. A bit nervous too. Seeing Germany slice through Australia again and again is a reminder of what NZ are up against, though obv Slovakia won't be quite as creative or clinical.

A mixed blessing playing the team we have the best chance against first up - overall I think it's good, however if Slovakia do beat us comprehensively then it's going to make the matches against Italy and Paraguay into solemn viewing.

Slovakia will be the European darkhorses, Hamsik is a gem of a player.

Ridiculously un-Italian this.

Disagree. Adopted their usual cowardly formation of two solid banks of four but just aren't doing it very well.

That's what's un-Italian about it. Normally executed to perfection.

Yes Italy are getting beaten at their own game really. Pretty funny. Dunno what the captain was doing not bothering to jump for the goal - if he tries to head the ball that's most of the time enough to stop the header going on target.

The day has finally arrived.
Can't wait for tonight.

Where are my fellow Wellingtonians watching the match?
I might head into Four Kings.
