Yuvraj is a very good T20 player. In T20i's he has an average of over 30 and a strike rate of 171, and he offers his golden arm with the ball. I don't see what's wrong with his selection.
As for Van Der Merwe. I wanted a spinning all-rounder at 7, as spin plays a key role in T20, and there aren't many better than Roelof atm. Strike rate of 130 in T20 games and a superb record with the ball, averaging in the teens with an economy of just over 7.
Who would you have picked ahead of those 3? Let me guess. Taylor, Oram and Butler?

I keep it to players who are playing now.
AB De Villiers
K Sangakkara (WK)
D Vettori (C)
Guys unlucky to be missing out
McCullum - Preferred a batsman who could hold the innings together as the team has enough fire power already
Symonds - Lost out to AB
Murali - Lost out to Mendis
EDIT: Dilshan instead of Gambhir would make the team better.

Tail is a bit long, but you can't have it all, I guess.
The speed at which a fielding team gets through the innings is overrated.
