India squad for T20 WC

Now that every player is finished with the IPL, let's look at the form guide from the other three teams-

Dhoni (WK): He's had a good tournament, with an average over 40 and a more-than-decent strike rate of 127. He's also been good behind the stumps, keeping it tight. However, his preference to have someone else wicketkeeping may leave him a tad rusty, and coming in lower down the order hasn't helped him at all. Another genuine success of the series.

Raina (LHB): He's done rather well, particularly with a strike rate over 140 and an average of 31, but the lack of big scores stands out. He's only had two fifties and missed a century (and finishing unbeaten) playing a needless shot. He's also had a good series with the ball, but given the struggling form of the batsmen in general, he'd be advised not to touch it and spend all twenty overs at backward point. They need runs, not wickets.

Praveen Kumar (RMF, RHB): He's had a dire tournament with the ball, averaging over 30. He's done reasonably well with a strike rate over 140 but that average of 13 isn't good enough. He'll struggle to make the XI, unless they want to add strength to their rickety batting lineup.

Rohit Sharma (RHB): Significantly over-rated, as he's only been an assistant to the star trio of Gilly, Gibbs and Roy, and Dwayne/Styris when they played. On his own, that average of 28 and a strike rate of 117 isn't good reading. He's scored just one fifty. When you find that the team management played him in a less relevant role than all the internationals and even Suman, you get a hint. It's easy when he's got a strong batting lineup around him, but in this team, he'll have to play a lead. He lost his place in the last T20I the Indians played, to a bowler.

RP Singh (LFM): It all looks good since he finished with the Purple Cap, leading the wickets tally with a healthy average. However, he had profited primarily by taking out tailenders and rookie Indian batsmen, but was average or less against top Test batsmen who faced him. It was easy playing in a team with such a strong batting lineup, but this current Indian team doesn't have one.

Pragyan Ojha (SLA): He had a decent tournament, with another healthy average and an economy of 6.46, with a few wickets, but he was bowling with high scores behind him and a wicket or two down. Will he do so well defending a low score or bowling first on a flat deck? We don't know. He's not the most aggressive spinner around, and tries to keep it tight. Like the other Deccan Chargers players, he'll have to play a bigger role when he's in the game for India.

As for the Mishra discussion, yes, he should have made the squad. Like it has been said, he's a genuine spinner who will try to take wickets, but goes for a few more runs. Frankly, the same can also be said of part-time spinners in this team, who sometimes go for excessive runs (Sehwag, Yuvraj, Rohit and Raina have had 20-run overs at times) in comparison, but don't take too many wickets. As for Ojha, it is a dicey issue, but he's been relatively a flat spinner, not turning the ball much, not giving it much air, but doing stuff that a batsman-who-can-spin should do. I don't believe Mishra has got a fair try at all, being kept out of away matches and all limited-overs matches, with inferior options (average medium-pacers, rubbish part-time spin) preferred ahead of him. That said, Yusuf Pathan is under-rated as a spinner, and can do as well as some 'spinners' who bowl for India, or even better.

Disturbing news- there seems to be a lot of buzz about Zaheer's injury, and he may stand to miss out on the World T20. Possible replacements are Nehra and Munaf Patel, and of these, Nehra will be a better choice, given that he was in the running for the Purple Cap and had a fantastic tournament.

Would rather have seen Mishra in it than Jadeja, Mishra looked a better bowler in this format than Bhaji tbh. If Zaheer goes it's a blow, but not sure that it's such a big one in this format. Would rather see Munaf than Nehra, Nehra is just too liable to get smashed around in a pressure game, Munaf has a much better temperament. Though ideally neither would get a game, RP should be an easy replacement to complement Ishant and Irfan Pathan, Bhaji and a host of part timers.

East are West India is the best no matter who play's at which down it will be team effort all it requires and the confidence all togather we can do it again. Its time to make opposition team keep thinking if he goes then the other batsman is more powerfull hitter are good player make them think as we have big & powerfull batting line up all needs to concentrate well not to get over confidence and should focus more on bowling and feilding. GO INDIA GO WE CAN DO IT AGAIN

Outstanding attention to the details of the game in that last post, I particularly enjoyed the posters musings on the importance of technique, he's really made the youtube community proud.

Going on record predicting an India vs South Africa final. Australia will go out in the semis.
If there are no upset in the preliminary groups then Ind, OZ and SA are likely to find themselves in the same group, along with England. So the chances of Ind, OZ and SA [all three] being in the semis are slim!

Below is how the groups are likely to be in case there are no upsets early on

Grp E - Aus, Eng, Ind and SA

Grp F - BD, NZ, Pak and SL

Lol so England haven't a hope in hell of reaching the semis. Getting a nasty feeling we'll go down to Australia and it will cost us a semi spot. We really should have brought Mishra ahead of Ojha or Jadeja. 1st group much stronger than second, though calling 2 from NZ, Pak and SL is tough.
