the second round has just started but it has been far better than 2002 put together & with the big sides likely to be in the quarter-finals and beyond it should be better than 98.

This has been the best of the three that I can remember. '98 was okay... but nothing special, and '02 was boring.

I enjoyed '98 loads, was my first World Cup. 2002 was only lit up by the Asian dimension, the fact that Argentina and France went out early on (though highly amusing) did nothing for the competition.

As LE has said, a World Cup does not really come alive until the knock out stages.

From the 'Round of 16' matches that have taken place so far, it promises much.

World Cup so far has been damn excellent for me.. It's a worldcup that i will remember for a long long time, not just because Australia is playing but the excitement that i have been through watching there games..

Aussie games have created quite a lot of hype around media and throught the country, so all these makes me say that it has been one of the best..

Personally didnt prefer last worldcup, and in all honesty i thought 98 was much better than the last WorldCup but this worldcup takes over all the others..

I've really enjoyed it. Less ***** - decent ratio than the past few for me.

Great world cup so far and good to see that after 2002 and Euro 2004 the big teams are back on top. Some very good Football along with some simply obsurd matches.

Why Australia got knocked out, they played **** football, could not defend and fouled constantly. Only good for the tournament that Italy progressed.

It was a terrible injustice obviously, but I still think it's been a wonderful tournament so far. Hopefully Italy get a few disallowed goals against Switzerland and lose on penalties.

Why would I want Italy to go through? Historically everything I hate about football has been prominent in Italian football.

Slow, defensive games
Professional fouls (holding shirts etc)
Cynical fouls
Diving...sorry simulation
Cheating
Bribery
100 sideways passes

I could go on.

Apart from the Argentinians, the Italians are the team I dislike the most. They have heavily corrupted the game.

By the same token does that mean we are partly to blame for the holocaust considering we created the idea and method of the concentration camp?

Individuals corrupted the game of football not nations.

I have no idea what you are on about but there was a raison d’ętre for the theatrical nature of my post.
