That's what happens when you enlist third world referees. The cheek of the English press.

We might not be much good but you can't say our games haven't been exciting.

I get a feeling Lygon street is going to get trashed whatever happens in the next game. Italians, Greeks and Croats would have to be the three biggest ex-pat populations in Australia and we will have played them all in the space of a month. Carnage!

Actually, in general, I haven't been impressed with the standard of goalkeeping in this tournament at all. There have been a number of mistakes - not howlers like Kalac's though - which you wouldn't expect to see from these teams. I reckon our keeper is better than most of the ones on show, and from what I've seen only Cech, Hislop and Buffon have been at the standard I was expecting.

I'm not gonna lie, I wanted the Aussies to go out - for the same reason I wanted USA to go out, that one nation should not be allowed to be good at every single sport there is. You have to have a weak spot.

In all seriousness though, well done Australia, absolutely fantastic effort. Absolute joke of a referee, but you guys came through well. I wasn't supporting you, but I am sort of glad you got through. It's an uncomfortable feeling though.

Lucas Neill, if he isnt one of the worlds best defenders then im not here, i hope his performances in this World Cup dont go unnoticed and unrewarded.

Neill would have to be close to the most underrated player in the premiership.

He has easily been our best player in the tournament.

Neeskens said he was capable of playing for Barcelona and of course AC Milan were interested in him early last season so it will be interesting to see if he can get a big move after the world cup.

We are going to struggle defensively against Italy with no Emerton on top of no Vidmar or Popovich.

Popovic might be available i thought...
Emmo will be a loss but i think Bresciano will start in that position which from an attacking point of view is pretty exciting...

I think he will go back to Wilkshire as right wing back

We would be better off with Culina playing that role and Bresciano slotting into central midfield. For some reason he doesn't like to play all the big guns at once, I was surprised Sterjovski started ahead of Bresciano today.

Congratulations Australia !!

I left home with the score 2-1 in favour of Croatia, but always thought Aussies would get a 2nd and even a 3rd , going by the number of shots they had on Goal.

Croatia's defense was pretty unimpressive ,IMO.

Before the game I honestly did not expect Aussies to get into the 16 .

I guess with a little bit of luck they could get into the Quarters too, now.

Italians are a bit unpredictable and on their day (and Italians worst days )Aussies can get past them.

Terrible refereeing by Poll. Seen him do better but this has to be one of his worst performances. Hiddink must have been smoking something when he named Kalac as starting goalie.

Not yet. Any decent striker would have finished those. Still got a lot to do IMO.
