Not if said before the game.

Sour grapes would be after the match (think back to the Aussie's in Mumbai...)
Think back to the fact a comment was made before the end of that match.

Sour grapes and selective memory...now that's a combination! :p

The league table doesn't lie - well done Oz.

Wonder who Brazil will play up front against you lot?

Given your well-documented and less-than-fortunate history of penal servitude, there's scope for them wheeling out (operative word in Ronaldo's case) the Real Madrid crime-fighting duo....

haha. Yes it's a large bandwagon to jump onto. Why are we not being sent off in droves?

To paraphrase a quote from your papers...would your own team like to borrow a little bit of heart?
Fair point IHMO. I think 8 of the Oz players used play in Britain & showed that heart (balls, guts, bottle, ticker, intestinal fortitude, call it what you want) is not heat dependent. We very visibly wilted like hothouse flowers on Saturday, your blokes kept at it for the full 90 & beyond, which is why you won the game.

Sad to say, but were it us 1-0 down with 6 minutes left, there's no way I could've seen us winning.

Nope, none of the Aussies on here had a problem with the pitch when Clarke (!) took 6-9.

Since the club squads broke up for the end of season Hiddink has been working them in intensive training sessions for 5 hours a day - 2.5 hour session in the morning, 2.5 hour session in the afternoon. Fitness wise they are spot on.

Vidmar was correct - "The one thing I noticed about Hiddink's club side, Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven, is that they are super fit. The Socceroos will be, too, when they face Japan in their first World Cup game tomorrow week."

Hiddink

I can bet if you guys get through to the knockout stages he'll get you practising penalties, too. I'm still waiting for the day when an England manager will wake the hell up and get us doing that.

Sad, but true. I've said it before and I'll say it again - Sven has no idea when it comes to motivation. We should've employed Psycho as an Ar*e-Rocket Delivery Specialist for this tournament. God knows, we seem to be in regular need of one these days.

You are right Barney, Sven's motivational skills are poor

BUT you could argue (and I certainly would) that players shouldn't need motivating when playing for their country, least of all in the World friggin Cup

Without a shadow of an iota of a doubt.

He was my (& an awful lot of other people's) first choice to replace Svennis. We should've moved heaven & earth to get him. I would imagine he's on a very tidy little screw for yer Russkis, but how much more than Eriksson's current £5 million pa it is I don't know. It might be less for all I know.

The excuses for England running empty against Paraguay were also absolutely pathetic, going on about 28-29 C and it being the first really warm day England have experienced. 28/29 C is nothing compared to the temperatures in some of the other games.

What are you basing that on? Hiddink has won a European Cup. Took PSV to the semis last year too.
Basing it on whenever Hiddink works abroad he usually ****s up big style. Disastrous reign at Real Madrid, his Valencia played nice football but were very light weight until Hector Cuper installed some bottle and left Real Betis in the lurch because he realised that he took a job which was too huge a task for himself.

You can say what you want about Sven, but winning a league title with SS Lazio, taking Benfica to a European cup final. Winning the UEFA cup with IFK Göteborg and various Coppa Italia’s through the years is some feat.

Hiddink has won more Dutch titles than anyone, Dutch Cups, European Cup, and made a Champions League semi in which PSV outclassed AC Milan. His club reign is comparable to Sven, imo.

As a national team manager, there's no comparison. Hiddink <daylight> Eriksson

Back in the day when Nazio used to splash cash around like no tomorrow, world record transfer fees, other massive fees for players. But 28m for Mendita?

Mind you they had a good side back then, the likes of Mihaljovic (racist thug he might be in some quarters, but one of the best at dead-ball situations), Nesta (believe Alan Smith once gave him a tough time about 5 years ago), Veron, Mendita, Stankovic, Nedved, Crespo, Vieri (ok back in 98/99), and another Argentine strike who since has ended up in Mexico whose name I have forgotten. And I believe Peruzzi was in goal back then as well.

And lol at Ronaldo's lack of match fitness and his dizzy spells, has he spent too much time looking at the rather 'revealing' photos given to him by his latest girlfriend? :naughty:
