The Ivory Coast/Serbia & Montenegro game was an absolute cracker. Didn't get it live here, but I caught the replay before bed, and it was one of the finest of the tournament.

The game started at 7.30 am on SBS), what time did you go to bed?

I missed the start as I was out getting the paper and missed the first goal.

The British derisively coined the term and the French just adopted it, it is quite strange that it is only a literal translation but the words Ivory Coast do net set well with the indigenous people. Kind like if Portugal had named their colony Brazil, Coca Land or The Bullion Coast. It is rather discourteous for the people to know the real implication and consequence of imperialism was solely Ivory (even though Ivory was not the most valuable commodity in Côte d'Ivoire)

Taken it was entertaining but both teams really did defend appallingly and it was a game where no one gave a ****. Everyone had license presumably because both managers were off after the game.
Ivory Coast just launched an all out assault from the start whilst the Serbians who employed a rather effective two lines of four tactic in Dutch game, abandoned such notions and the Serbian players were popping up here, there and everywhere. It really was peculiar game of football.

In the 20th century it was coffee and cocoa.

So now you're saying Andy Cole is crap or rather was because he's very close to that now?

It's not now, I said it back in the time as well, he wasn't as good as his number of goals suggested.

Well defences back then must have been real crap then and Shearer wasn't as good as we thought. Mind you, I'm not saying he was world class but not as bad as you're making out.
