Name a better right back, period - Zanetti's not what he once was, and Cafu's never really been a right back anyway; both of them have spent large portions of their careers playing as wing-backs or wide midfielders besides. Of every specialist right-back in the world, Neville's the best.

very good point, DEFENSE is the key word, thats why i reckon England full-strenght Neville/Campbell/Terry/A.Cole do have the best in the world.

Will be interesting to see what sort of system Brazil play with Cafu and R Carlos. If they sit deeper and don't make those massive runs, it aint gonna happen becuase they simply can't resist, then a defence of Carlos - Lucio - Edmilson - Cafu is fairly impressive as well!

Materazzi is a centre back and given that he is left footed no he doesn't play at right back.

Mind you if you want somebody to hack down a player and have him leave in the medicab then he is it (he once punched out a former team mate a few years back). And Rooney better not try and act like smartalec around him or he will probably know about it. Irrelevant that he used be Toffee.

Christian Panucci could do an ideal job there, but given his age and he and Lippi had a massive falling out when they were at Inter, I think he will not get picked.

the Greek defence was simply outstanding as a defensive unit during Euro 04 with Dellas, Seitaridis and Dabizas starring but they have fallen away so much they arent even in the WC.On a consistentcy basis, Italy always have a world class defence - thats why there are so few goals scored in Serie A compared to other major leagues (Prem League etc)

i concur, with neville, ferdinand and to a lesser extent campbell being massively overated i would take italy's defence over england any day, ashley cole however remains the best left back in the world at the moment imo, mind you even hes overated if you ask me, and im an arsenal fan.

Ferdinand overated yes. But i think you are just prejudiced against Neville he is actualy a pretty good international right back, he makes very few errors and isnt bad going forward.

I still maintain that Zambrotta is better then Cole.

Certainly in versability he has it over Cole.
