I have to admit, right from the moment Rooney got injured I've never really believed we could win until now - just as I was starting to believe again, Owen got crocked. Here's to optimism.

Er, no. Sorry. Too many players out of sorts, not 100% fit, or just not as good as we've been led to believe. Plus we have no idea what formation we should be playing, never mind who the best XI are. Portugal will beat us by a couple of goals unless we improve 100%.

It's alright, I'm just being young, naive and optimistic. Mind you, I'm 19 now - still can't get used to that.

i rather get the feeling that england will foul it up, scolari getting the better of england once again, england were better than portugal were 2 years ago, and that remains the case now, tbh i dont have much optimism, in fact i probably had more optimism 4 years ago. That said, i do hope england win of course, i just wouldnt be surprised if they dont.

Let's have some optimism. Rooney is about to hit top form, Gerrard is the best midfielder at the competition and Owen Hargreaves is Canadian. The trophy is ours.

They haven't given me any grounds for optimism as-yet. First decent side we face = out.

Hope I'm completely wrong of course and I'll be cheering the lads on like.

That's the great thing about my optimism - it has absolutely no grounds whatsoever. Just like my blind faith in Rooney's recovery, and that turned out alright.

I suppose with Rooney and Gerrard in the side we always have a chance. I'm just a miserable, pessimistic old ****.
