Fleming out of first two ODIs

New Zealand’s inspirational leader, Stephen Fleming will miss the first two One Day International matches of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy. Having undergone surgery last week, Fleming will be unable to take the field for the start of the highly anticipated clash.

The procedure saw a tumour removed from his jaw-line in front of his left ear. The growth was reported to be potentially cancerous. The tumour was later found to be benign, but its size caused nerve damage which had to be repaired with further surgery.

Fleming is expected to play for Wellington against Canterbury, on December 5. He hopes to be available for selection for the third ODI. Daniel Vettori will take up the captaincy, whilst Nathan Astle stands in as his deputy.
