Jeff & Paul hope you enjoy this copy of their great game and hope you register it for furthur updates. This version, 1.22, allows you to play One Day Matches with any one of the nine test playing nations. We are still working on putting the three new teams, Kenya, Holland and the UAE, in with latest up to date averages. But before you get into the game, here's a few pointers on how to play. (2) About the game 'Jeff & Paul's Cricket 2' is the most advanced, statistical game on the market at this time. Jeff & Paul are renowned for their attention to detail, and this is again present in JP's Cricket 2. In this version 1.22, you can play with all nine test playing nations in One Day Internationals, with different teams and averages for each side! Play against a friend, or test yourself out, to see how good you are at winning. But remember, being a shareware version, the game is somewhat easier than the full version will be, so don't get too cocky. (3) Hardware Requirements 'JP's Cricket 2' should work on most IBM PC's with VGA (with at least 512k memory) or better graphics card and at least 4MB of RAM. This freeware version must be installed on to the harddrive (needing at least 2MB space). The game does run quicker when using EMM386, but should work Ok without it. Make sure you copy all files across to the same directory if you want to play. (4) File Contents The following files should appear on your disk: CRICKET2.EXE - The game file which runs the game README .TXT - This text file ONEDAY2 .PAS - Part of the actual program ODINGAME.PAS - " " " " " GRAPH .TPU - This loads up the graphics driver EGAVGA .BGI - " " " " " " (5) Features of shareware version * The One Day matches allow you to practice for the World Cup * All new Test Match version with different teams and averages * Choose from nine different world sides * Change your batting order before every match or innings * A choice of eight different bowlers to use per team, so as a coach, you can never run out of options * Statistics of over 100 world players, each with batting average, bowling average, fielding skill, and bowling style * World Cup Averages that year for the top eight teams plus Zimbabwe * Special Quicktime or Ball by Ball options, which allows you to play at your own pace * Umpire decisions in response to appeals * Specialized Batting and Bowling scorecards for each individual team * 3 types of batting strategy - Defensive, Standard, and Attacking * Coaching each side * A run rate equation screen, so you can follow your progress (this is in one day format only) (6) Starting up To start 'Jeff & Paul's Cricket 2' type Cricket2 at the DOS prompt. You will now get to choose your batting order. Then will come the coin toss, player one chooses heads or tails and after that you're underway! (10) Game Speed This option is unique to Jeff & Paul's Cricket 2. Do you want to play each over at a time, stopping only for special events such as a wicket or play the game, ball by ball? Our special Quicktime service allows a quick game to be played with all the excitement of the normal game. But for the harden cricket fan, ball by ball allows the suspense to build as the match reaches it's climax. If you want a quick fire game, then quicktime is the best option, but if there's a close finish you will be regretting it if your not playing Ball by Ball! (11) In game services NEW BOWLER SCREEN -- Choose any bowler out of the eight provided OR SCORECARD -- Press 'S' to see your scorecard, you can check out the batting and bowling statistics of the innings RUN RATE -- Press 'R' and you will see a special run rate equation screen. It provides you with the two not out batsmen's score, the team's total score, the current run rate with overs and wickets remaining, and if you are chasing a target, a special runs remaining and run rate required service, which allows you to compare your progress to your opposition's BATTING STRATEGY -- Press 'B' and you can choose your batting style, from Defensive to Attacking. DEFENSIVE : Is the conservative approach to the game. If you want a steady start, or have lost a few wickets, this is the approach to go with. Although not quick, it isn't slow either. STANDARD : This is the standard approach to the one day game. Runs will be scored at about 5 or 6 per over, yet wickets will also fall, unless the pitch is a batting paradise! ATTACKING : This option will delight the fans of the new style of one day cricket! Those of you who loved seeing Sri Lanka's openers wield their stuff in the World Cup can now try it for themselves with this batting strategy. But Beware, as wickets are very easy to fall in this mode. Attacking is great for quick runs at the start and end of an innings, but can also bring a side undone on a pitch with a bit in it for the bowlers. Pressing Enter allows you to keep bowling with the same bowler from what end he is bowling from. REMEMBER, in limited overs cricket, each bowler can only bowl 10 overs maximum, so bowl wisely. (12) Bowling In quicktime, press enter to bowl out the over. While in Ball by Ball you must press enter each ball, for a different result each time! On the right hand side of the screen, a tally of your runs will mount up as you go along, if you are batting second, a target will be placed below it, so you know how much further there is to go. (For a better account of how you are going, and how many runs remaining, press 'R' at the NEW BOWLER screen.) (13) End of Innings When you complete the 50 overs, or are all out trying, it is the end of the innings. (If you are batting second, the end of the innings will also occur if you get the required amount of runs). At the end of the innings, both the Batting and Bowling Scorecards will be shown as a summary of the innings. (14) End of the Match When both teams have had their bat, the end of the match will arrive. At the end of the match, whoever wins, and by how much will be printed on the screen. You will then go back to the Game Menu, where you can play another match, or go back to the Main Menu to view the teams, or quit to dos.
