India is batting and need 33 runs off 4 overs in order to beat the English total of 102. In order to stop them the English need to get the last 5 Indian batsmen out in 4 overs. Either way, both sides have their work cut out for them! In this demo, the difficulty is set to easy. In the full game, there are a slider bars for the main game mode and for the super six section of the competition which allow the difficulty to be increased plus an expert mode for hard-core cricket fans. The demo's AI is somewhat restricted due to the low difficulty setting and limited number of overs see the hints and tips section below for more detail on this. *************************************** KEY GUIDE *************************************** Bowling: ACTION GAME PAD MOUSE KEYBOARD Change bowl side Double tap B Double click RMB Double tap X Move pitch indicator D-Pad Move mouse Arrow keys Bowl Path indicator hold B+D-pad right click +drag Hold X+arrow keys Start Delivery A Left-click Z Complete delivery A Left-click Z After the ball has been delivered Increase power by 50% C Double click left Double tap Z Decrease power by 50% D Left click Z Toggle Bowl path off/ Enter Straight/exact NB: For more information on bowling see Bowling section below Batting: ACTION GAME PAD MOUSE KEYBOARD Move Batsmen d-pad Move Mouse Arrow keys Move Shot Direction Hold B+D-pad Hold right mouse button Hold X+Arrow keys cone left/right +move mouse left/right Play Stroke Press A when Left Click when cone Press Z when cone cone flashes flashes flashes NB: Timing of button presses relative to the ball affects how accurately the batsmen hits the ball Defensive Stroke B Right-click X Play Power Stroke Press A+B Left and right buttons Press Z+X Run A Left-click Z (after shot is played) Sprint Tap A Left-click repeatedly Tap Z repeatedly repeatedly Return to crease B Right-Click X NB: For more information on batting, see Batting section below Bowling ======= The mouse is the recommended controller for bowling. The yellow circle can be moved around the pitch using the mouse. The right mouse button is used to control spin, cut or seam depending on the bowler by right clicking and dragging the mouse, and is represented on screen by the round display in the bottom left of the screen. The left mouse button is used to start and stop the pace meter, which is around the outer edge of the spin/seam/cut meter. NB: To choose which side of the wicket you wish to bowl from, (i.e. over/around the wicket), double click the right mouse button before commencing the bowling sequence. Spin/cut/seam Meter ------------------- Click and drag the right mouse button to set the amount of spin, seam or cut you want to apply to the ball. The distance the meter is from the center represents the amount of spin, seam or cut you want to apply to the ball as follows: Left Arrow Out swing or Off-spin Right Arrow In Swing or Leg-spin Upper Diagonal Arrows Seam for fast/medium paced bowling Lower Diagonal Arrows Cut for fast/medium paced bowling As you select the required spin, cut or seam, the bowling accuracy marker appears, This moves across the control panel to a greater or lesser degree, depending on the amount of spin/cut/seam selected. Put another way, the more spin/seam/cut you apply, the more inacurate the ball is likely to be. Once you have set the amount of spin, cut or seam to the ball, left click on the pace meter when the accuracy marker is as close as possible to the center of the control panel. Bowling Skill Stop ------------------ When the bowling accuracy marker is stopped dead center (perfect stop) the ball will be delivered with exactly the spin/seam/cut that was selected. In addition to this, the player can then also select to change the direction of the spin/seam/cut on the pace meter has been selected. If the skill stop is not perfect, then the meter cannot be changed. Pace Meter ---------- Once you've positioned the yellow circle and set the desired spin/cut/seam, click on the left mouse button to begin the pace meter. Click the left mouse button a second time to stop the pace meter. Pace of delivery can be increased or decreased suddenly only BEFORE release of the ball. i.e. when bowling, up until just BEFORE the ball is released from the bowlers hand, you can increase delivery power by double tapping button 1, or decrease power by tapping button 1 once only. This will help you in deceiving the batsmen with a late change of pace. BATTING ======= The recommended controller for batting is the Gamepad Before the ball is bowled ------------------------- While the bowler is adjusting his delivery, the batsman's position can be adjusted using the d-pad. At the batsmen's feet is a blue cone, indicating the direction in which the ball should travel once the shot is played. To rotate the cone, hold the B button and press D-pad left or right. Playing a Shot -------------- At a certain point during the balls flight toward the batsmen, the shot direction cone should flash red. Press the A button to play a shot in the direction indicated by the blue cone or B to play a defensive shot. The timing of the button press (in relation to the flash) affects how accurately the ball is struck. Poorly timed shots will result in the ball hitting the edge of the bat or missing entirely. The speed of the flash is relative to the skill of the players. DEFENSIVE STROKE ---------------- To play a defensive stroke, press the B button when the shot direction cone flashes. POWER SHOTS ----------- Press buttons A and B together and the batsman takes a more hefty swing at the ball. This gives you a better chance of hitting a six if you connect properly. NB: Power Shots are riskier than strokes using the A button. MAKING RUNS ----------- After the shot has been played, press A at any time to start both batsmen running towards the opposite wicket. Once the batsmen have started the run, tap A repeatedly to give them a speed burst. If you wish to attempt another run, simply press A again once the batsmen have completed their original run. To return the batsmen to their closest crease, press B at any time. Pressing B will not allow the batsmen to make any more additional runs. The batsmen will not run if the ball is "dead", (e.g. when the ball crosses the boundary for a 4 or 6). *************************************** MISCELLANEOUS TIPS *************************************** Accelerated Time ---------------------- The Accelerated Time key allows you to skip time when you want to speed up play when ever the ball is dead, i.e. to skip umpire animations, players walking out on to the pitch, change of overs etc during the game, press the Space Bar (regardless of playing in keyboard, gamepad or mouse controlled mode.) Star Charts ---------------------- 3D star charts for batting and bowling can be viewed from the in game menu. To view them, press Esc in game to bring up the menu and choose the stats option and then "Star Charts". *Function keys F1 to F8 are hot keys for the camera views. *************************************** HINTS AND TIPS *************************************** Difficulty level ---------------------- The games difficulty/AI scales with the number of overs you select for a match ie you need to play a 50 over match -if you play a 5 over match even on a high difficulty setting your opponents can seem relatively easy to beat. When you play in a world cup competition difficulty also scales as you get into the later stages i.e. super six and semi finals etc. So just because you are doing well with a particular tactic against teams in the early rounds do not assume its easy to win the world cup and of course you can use the difficulty sliders to increase the challenge... Finally if you really think you are a great player/want the most realism then you should be able to win the world cup playing in 'expert mode' Batting ---------------------- DO NOT JUST STAND STILL AT THE CREASE, move around this will open up a wider selection of shots to suit the direction you are trying to hit in. (use the nets to practice.) Bowling ---------------------- Sides are more likely to take wickets by alternating between spin and pace bowlers at either end. This varied bowling attack has proved useful in upsetting the batters' rhythm and may help you claim a few scalps! Against weaker teams (and at easier difficulty settings) bowlers you may be able to find a weak spot in the batting team's defense with certain types of balls. However, this strategy will fail miserably against stronger teams (and/or if the difficulty setting is increased) as they will start to pick the balls you are trying to ball and score runs from them more readily." To bowl bouncers bring the bowl target toward the bowlers end so it's less than 1/2 way down the pitch. Replay mode ---------------------- When in replay mode, use the mouse to click (left click) on any player's head, the umpire or the actual ball to focus the replay around these objects. Use right click and drag on your mouse to zoom in our out on the replay. Use left click and drag to rotate or adjust the viewing angle around the selected item. The shuttle dial at the bottom left of the replay screen will allow you to pan through the replay and catch your brilliant moments at variable speeds forwards or backwards, including frame by frame. Left click and drag on the edge of the shuttle dial to alter replay speed as required. *************************************** More information *************************************** For more up to date information including any game updates/patches and FAQ's, visit the EA Sports web site at the following sites http://www.easports.com.au http://www.ea.co.za/newrelease/cricket99 http://www.easports.com http://www.ea-europe.com/cricket99 For support related queries, please send an email to ozsupport@ea.com or run the EA Technical Helpfile program found in the START>Program Files>EA Sports>Cricket World Cup 99 program group and fill in the relevant details.
