You are playing as England against Australia in a 1 day international match at Lords. Australia have completed their innings, reaching a score of 289/5 off 50 overs. England are currently at 257/7 off 47 overs. Can you reach the required 23 runs off 3 overs with only 4 batsmen left to win the match? Batting: Although it may seem hard at first, with a bit of practice you will be able to hit perfect shots to the boundary, and maybe even into the stands! Below are the basics plus some hints and tips. The brackets contain the default buttons. Press button 1 (5) to signal to the bowler that you are ready to face the next delivery. Look at the bowling cursor (the green circle) to get an idea of where the ball is going to pitch. Move the batsman with left (left cursor) and right (right cursor) to line him up. As the bowler begins his run up, you will see the bowling cursor shrink. After this you will not be able to move your batsman. Select a shot to play: Press button 1 (5) or 2 (8) to play a defensive shot Press button 1 (5) -front foot shot- or button 2 (8) -back foot shot- or button 3 (6) -advance down wicket shot- and select a direction (cursor keys) to play an attacking shot (see below for an explanation of different shots you can play). To play no shot or duck, press button 4 (4). To add power to your shot, keep button 5 (0) held down as you make your shot. If a run is available, press button 3 (6) to start your run. Press button 3 (6) again before the batsmen reach the crease to start a further run. Press button 4 (4) to abort the current run. NOTE: The run radar in the top left of the screen will help your decision on when to make a run. Explanation of different shots: These shots can be played with front foot, back foot and advance down wicket shot types. Up - Defensive Up & Right - Sweep/hook Right - Leg Glance Down & Right - On-Drive Down - Straight Drive Down & Left - Cover Drive Left - Square Drive/Square Cut Up & Left - Late Cut/Steer If playing with a left handed batsman, these shots are mirrored. Hints & Tips: Start simple. Get used to all shot types and then go for the boundary. Don't get greedy. Sometimes it's best to play sweeping shots to get a few runs rather than try a power shot which could be caught. Keep an eye on the Fielding Scanner (bottom right of screen). Different bowlers have different fielder setups. Plan your shot early. Each type of bowler has a number of deliveries to choose from. Choosing the type of shot that you will play, and when you will play it, is all important if you want to win. Experiment with swinging the bat at different times into the bowlers delivery to find the perfect shot. --------------------------- 2.
