Grounds Facts and Figures:

Name: Seddon Park
Also/ formerly known as: Seddon Park, Trust Park, Westpac Park
Capacity: 10,000
Pitch type: Grass
End Names: Members End, City End
Home Team: Northern Knights
Ground website: www.westpacpark.co.nz

The Ground:

The second largest proper cricket ground in New Zealand. It is oval and has an abundance of hills and grass banks, which creates a picturesque 'village green' family setting. It has had first class use since 1956 and held its first test in 1991.

The Wicket:

Traditionally a very good surface for batting. However in recent times it has been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons: the infamous 'crater' that marked the side of the pitch in 2003/4 and the farcical sideways movement during the recent World XI match. Its future as both a first class and test venue will therefore constantly be under scrutiny for the coming seasons.

The Outfield:

Providing the weather is fine it is a hard outfield. However as the majority of the ground is in the open the drainage is not as effective compared to other grounds, so it relies on good weather for a full match.

Bliss or Torment:

The home side has won 5 of the 13 test matches played here, a proportionally high number for New Zealand sides. Recent seasons have recorded high scoring draws, notably against South Africa and Pakistan.
