Chanderpaul to play in decider

West Indies hopes of an ODI series win in England have received a boost, with the news that star batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul is likely to play in the decider at Trent Bridge.

Chanderpaul suffered an ankle injury during his superb 116 not out at Edgbaston. That knock helped keep the West Indies alive in the three match ODI series and captain Chris Gayle has told the media that he will play, even “if he has to go out there on one leg.”

Gayle was also full of praise for the Chanderpaul, who scored 446 runs at an average of 148.66 during the recent Test series between the two sides.

“There is no doubt he is one of the best batsmen in the world. You have to give him credit because he has done the work and the business in the past and he is doing it again right now,” Gayle said.

“Shiv can destroy any attack whenever he wants. He just has to play according to the situation. He can step it up whenever he needs to.”

The West Indies take on England for the final and deciding ODI of the three match series on Saturday in Nottingham.
