Browne called up for WIndies

Wicketkeeper Patrick Browne has received a surprise call-up to the West Indies team, as a backup to the incumbent Denesh Ramdin. While there are no reports of injury to Ramdin, team manager Clive Lloyd has called for Browne’s services to share the workload behind the stumps.

“Right now, I am a bit in shock because I was here playing a game, and suddenly the guys just called me off and told me I was called up for the West Indies team to go to South Africa,” said Browne.

The 25-year-old got the news whilst batting in a trial match preparing for Barbados’ Carib Beer Series run. He was notified by Barbados’ development officer with the West Indies Cricket Board, Wendell Coppin.

Browne has played 44 first-class matches, representing Barbados, West Indies ‘A’ and ‘B’. In the time he has amassed nine half-centuries with a top score of 83, as well effected 97 dismissals.
