Atapattu asks for release

Former Sri Lankan captain Marvan Atapattu has written to the Sri Lankan Cricket Board asking to be released from his central contract.

Atapattu who last played for Sri Lanka in Feburary 2007 against India in Visakhapatnam currently holds an annual contract with the Sri Lankan Cricket Board worth US$100,000.

The secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket’s interim committee Mr K. Madivanan told PA Sport that “We don’t know as to why Marvan Atapattu is requesting a release. However a decision regarding this will be taken tomorrow when the interim committee meets.”

It is understood that Atapattu along with Nuwan Zoysa and Upul Chandana are looking to sign on for the Indian Cricket League.
