SA v Pakistan : Day 2

Pakistan batted themselves into a strong position at the end of the second day of the first Test match against South Africa. The home side, led by a century from Taufeeq Umar, reached 275/4 at the close of play.

Umar was eventually dismissed by Paul Adams for a well-played 111. His innings included sixteen (16) fours and came off of 247 balls. He shared in a 109-run opening stand with Imran Farhat who was bowled by Adams for 41. Hameed (16) and Yousuf Youhana (8) didn't capitalize on their starts, but debutant Asim Kamal batted with good application to go in overnight unbeaten on 49.

Kamal and Umar added a good 63 runs before the latter was caught and bowled. Shoaib Malik is the other overnight batsman and he stands on 27 with five (5) fours. The current partnership between Malik and Kamal is worth 52 runs.

For the Proteas, Paul Adams had the best returns with 2/70 from his 23 overs of left-arm spin. Pollock and Nel bagged a wicket each as well. On the first day, South Africa were bowled out for 320 runs. This means that Pakistan are 45 runs behind on first innings, with 6 wickets in hand.
