Red Stripe Bowl Semi-final

Jamaica VS. Guyana

Jamaica fell apart at the end of their run-chase to lose their semi-final match against Guyana. Chasing just 184 for victory, the Jamaicans were well-placed at 150/4 before collapsing to 179 all out. Chris Gayle (67) and Dave Bernard jr. (29) saw little trouble in adding 60 runs for the fifth wicket before both got themselves out to poor shots against Nagamootoo. From there the wickets tumbled, as Nagamootoo ended with 3/24 and McGarrell with 2/31. Cush managed to bowl a very economical spell of off-spin, finishing with 0/20 off his allotted ten (10).

Windies player Wavell Hinds (23), Marlon Samuels (0), Ricardo Powell (20) failed to contribute significantly to the Jamaican cause.

Gayle's innings was largely a responsible one as he set himself to bat through the innings and did so purposefully, until he fell prelude to slog sweep at a wide leg-break outside of off-stump. He was comfortably caught at midwicket by the Guyana captain, Chanderpaul.

Jamaica entered the final two overs of the game needing 17 runs with 2 wickets in hand, after a quick clutter of wickets. Daren Powell (5 not out) and Jerome Taylor (7) added a four and a six between them, but it wasn't enough to win the game for the host team.

When Guyana batted earlier, they lost crucial wickets at the top of the order to limit their efforts. Sarwan got to 8 and Chanderpaul to 12 as Guyana slumped to 89/6. Mahendra Nagamootoo (30) and Man of the Match, Neil McGarrell (43) then added 32 runs before Gayle had the former caught and bowled. A further 62 runs were added for the loss of three (3) wickets, as Guyana finished on 183 all out.

Young pacer Jerome Taylor bowled impressive for 2/38 and Bernard (2/20), Breese (2/35) and Ricardo Powell (2/9) shared the majority of the wickets. The other two wickets fell to Samuels and Gayle.

The second semi-final between Trinidad and Tobago and defending champions Barbados takes place tomorrow.
