Wednesday, August 13 2003

Durham County Cricket Club are pleased to announce the signing of Herschelle Gibbs as one of their overseas players for the 2004 season. Durham beat off stiff competition from several other counties to clinch the signing of the South African batsman.

Gibbs has been in sensational form for South Africa throughout the npower Test Series and currently averages just over 45 in Test Matches and 35 in ODI's. Gibbs made his international debut in 1996 and will bring a wealth of
experience to the top order of Durham's batting.

Durham CCC Chief Executive David Harker said, "We are delighted with the signing of such an experienced player and I am confident he will make a major impact on the field as well helping some of the younger players
develop."

Bob Jackson, Durham CCC Chairman said, "Durham are committed to attracting the very best of overseas talent and Herschelle Gibbs continues this trend. I'm sure that Herschelle's aggressive style of batting will provide real
entertainment to the Durham fans."
