Kirtley Out; Nasser In Doubt

Saturday, August 30 2003

Key English seam bowler James Kirtley will miss the 5th and final Test match against South Africa at The Oval.

The skiddy pacer, who had taken 13 wickets in his 2-Test career, is suffering from shin splints.

Nasser Hussain, meanwhile, has a broken toe and is in doubt for the match.

Should he be ruled out, a recall for Graham Thorpe is not out of the question. Thorpe has been missing from Team England for over a year.

Another Surrey star in Martin Bicknell is also suffering back problems, hindering his chances of regaining his place in the squad.

In a boost to the ailing home side, Steve Harmison is likely to return to the XI following his injury obtained at Trent Bridge.

The squad will be announced on Sunday, with the Test to begin on Thursday.
