Tuesday, October 28 2003

Resuming on day 4 of the Test match against Pakistan with the score on 140-3 - a 80 runs lead, Gary Kirsten and Neil McKenzie were deterimined to give South Africa a healthy lead.

And so they did that before Danish Kaneria dismissed McKenzie caught by Taufeeq Umar for 35 with the score on 213.

In that time, Kirsten had found a reliable partner in Jacques Kallis who came in at number 6. Their partnership was worth 90 before Abdul Razzaq dismissed Kirsten caught by Umar for 118 - his 19th Test ton for South Africa with the score on 303.

It was a double breakthrough for Pakistan with Razzaq bowled Mark Boucher first ball with the score on 303 and leaving Razzaq the chance for a second hat-trick in Tests. However, Shaun Pollock survived the next ball and the chance of a hat-rick was no more.

Pollock and Kallis added another 22 runs for the seventh wicket before Razzaq trapped Kallis LBW for 43 with the score on 325. Robin Peterson joined Pollock at the crease and added 35 runs before Shabbir Ahmed dismissed Peterson for 17 caught by Inzaman ul-Haq for 17 with the score on 358.

Paul Adams came to the crease and made a rapid fire 9* off 6 balls to tke the lead to 301 when Graeme Smith set the match up with a sporting declaration with the score 371-8. Pollock finshed with 30*. For Pakistan Abdul Razzaq picked up 3 wickets for 70 runs.

Needing to keep all ten wickets in hand before stumps is excatly what Umar and Imran Farhat did. The made only 8 runs off 6 overs bowled clearly waiting to day 5.

At stumps Pakistan 8-0 nedding another 294 runs to win but they have one advantage - they have all ten wickets left which sets up an exciting day 5.
