Sharjah Cup in the balance

Wednesday, March 26 2003

The organisers of the Sharjah Cup are currently in negotiations to try and move the event to Sri Lanka or invite a replacement side for South Africa, who withdrew earlier this week.

Quasim Noorani (President of organisers CBFS) said, in an interview with BBC Sport, "We are having talks with the Sri Lankan board about moving the Sharjah Cup there. That would be our first option, and if that went through then of course we would expect South Africa to play. But if that doesn't happen and we were left with Sharjah, then we would look at trying to get either Kenya or Zimbabwe to replace them. We will know more on Wednesday night after talks are at a more advanced stage."

CricketWeb are pleased to report that yesterday's report regarding the identity of a replacement team was proved correct, and will keep you posted with further developments as they happen.
