Harvey: I'm Staying Home

Thursday, March 27 2003

World Cup all-rounder Ian Harvey has denied rumors he is about to jump ship and sign a contract with the South Australian Cricket Association.

Harvey was said to be disenchanted with his home state, Victoria, following coach David Hookes’ stinging attack of ‘The Freak’ in the Australian media.

Hookes stated that Harvey had lost his unique match-winning ability and was worn down by a constant flow of both Australian and English domestic cricket.

However, Harvey disagreed with these comments, stating that the extra cricket he plays for Gloucestershire in English benefits his game rather than hinders it.

Harvey played 6 matches for Australia in the World Cup, averaging 22 with the bat and around 19 with the ball.
