Gibbs Attacks Pollock

Wednesday, February 19 2003

Two of World Cricket’s leading batsman, Herschelle Gibbs and Ricky Ponting, have criticised the captaincy of South Africa all-rounder Shaun Pollock.

According to Gibbs, Pollock, who is under fire after South Africa’s poor start to the World Cup, is not as good at leading the side as his predecessor, the late Hansie Cronje.

Gibbs made his views felt at the launching of his book over the weekend.

Ponting, meanwhile, has stated that Pollock’s captaincy ‘lacks imagination’.

Pollock often follows the same plan in every match, including bowling changes and field placing, especially noticeable when he comes on to bowl his second spell generally in the 32nd over of an innings.

South Africa are facing an uphill battle to make the Super Six round in their home World Cup.
