Hussain Captaincy Turmoil

Wednesday, February 19 2003

English captain Nasser Hussain is clearly becoming disillusioned with the English captaincy, despite growing calls for their beloved captain to stay on.

Following the Zimbabwean debacle,. Hussain felt so let down he publicly stated that he may resign after the World Cup.

This follows from his statements on the recent Ashes tour to Australia regarding his captaincy future.

However, English coach Duncan Fletcher has stated that he wishes for Hussain to carry on after the World Cup following his success over recent years in the role, a call backed by middle-order batsman Paul Collingwood.

Meanwhile, Michael Vaughan has been talking up his chances of becoming the next English captain, adding fuel to Hussain’s statement that he may not go on after the World Cup.
