Alistair Campbell Retires

Sunday, March 30 2003

Alistair Campbell, the former captain of Zimbabwe has announced his retirement from all forms of International Cricket, after selectors snubbed him from the Sharjah tour.

Campbell recognised as one of Zimbabwe's best batting talents alongside the likes of the Flower brothers and David Houghton in the 90's, scored over 5000 runs in One Day Internationals at an average of over 30.

Campbell led Zimbabwe to high achieving status during the 1999 Cricket World Cup in England as Zimbabwe defeated the likes of India and entered the Super Six phase.

The selectors made it clear to Campbell who had suffered a form slump, by dropping him in favor of talented opening batsman Mark Vermeulen.

It is most likely, that Alistair Campbell will continue his future in the media as a television commentator or a cricket analyst.
