Kent CCC Sign Greg Blewett

Thursday, April 10 2003

Kent County Cricket Club have signed Australian all-rounder Greg Blewett as their overseas player for the first six weeks of the county season. Blewett will deputise for fellow Aussie Andrew Symonds, who will be away on international duty.

Symonds is currently playing a series of matches for Australia A against South Africa A, and is expected to be selected shortly as a member of the Aussie One Day Squad to play against the West Indies in May, after a highly successful World Cup campaign.

Kent County Cricket Club's Director of Coaching Ian Brayshaw said that: "Andrew has a busy schedule ahead in the next few weeks, and we expect to see him in Kent for the start of June. We are delighted Greg has agreed to join us in his place. He has a proven track record at international level and in County Cricket, and we know he wants to make a success of his time at Kent".

It will be Blewett's third spell in county cricket, having played previously for Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. With Nottinghamshire being a very productive season for Blewett in 2001.

Overall Greg Blewett has scored 15,501 first-class runs during his career at an average of 46.54, including 42 centuries, and claimed 128 wickets with his medium pace bowling.

Greg Blewett is currently in St Lucia representing Australia in an international double-wicket tournament and will arrive in England next week in time for the Kent's opening match of the season against Cambridge University on 18 April at Fenners (Cambridge).
