Anderson ruled out with injury

Wednesday, June 2 2004

James Anderson has been ruled out of the second Test against New Zealand starting this Thursday at Headingley because of a bruised left heel. The injury prevented him from practising at full throtle today at Leeds.

Anderson, who was in fact unlikely of making it to the final XI for the Test, has been replaced by in-form Kent seamer Martin Saggers. The latter's chances of playing are glum, as England won't be too keen on altering a winning pace combination - of Matthew Hoggard, Steve Harmison and Simon Jones, with Andrew Flintoff as the all-rounder.

Saggers, who has enjoyed a successful start to the county season with his side Kent, has played one Test thus far in his career. Incidentally, he was drafted in to that Test as a replacement for Anderson, who had then suffered a knee injury.
