Pak-SL ODI series postponed

Tuesday, May 11 2004

Malaysian cricket officials have announced that a three-match One-Day International series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka has been postponed indefinitely, as a result of lack of sponsorships for the event.

The series that had been scheduled for May 25, 27 and 29, had already been thought to be doubtful, after the Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) failed even to get a title sponsorship for it.

The series could be rescheduled to early November, subject to the availability of sponsorships.

MCA president, Tunku Imran, confirmed the news in a statement: "After consultation with Pakistan and Sri Lankan officials, the Malaysian Challenge Cup has been postponed but hope to reschedule it in early November this year. We wanted to host the event for development of the game in Malaysia but without the title sponsorship it was unwise to stage such an event."
