Saqlain Mushtaq dropped

Friday, April 2 2004

In the wake of an embrassing innings defeat to India at Multan, the Pakistani selectors responded by dropping off spinner Sqlain Mushtaq for the second Test at Lahore.

In his place comes Imran Nazir who has been in outstanding form with four centuries during the ongoing first-class season. Pakistan's Chairman of Selectors Wasim Bari justified Iran Nazir's inclusion:"Imran Nazir has been included in the side because he is in top form. We think he can make a difference to this Pakistan team that is more talented than the first Test results show.

"The defeat in the first Test is disappointing. But the Pakistan team is capable of bouncing back,"
Bari explained. "All they need is to learn from their mistakes and revise their game plan."

Sqlain was dropped after taking 1-204 off 43 overs in Multan. The man he dissmissed was Aakash Chopra. The second Test begins on April 5.
