Williams heads home with injury

Thursday, May 27 2004

Australian fast bowler Brad Williams is returning home to undergo scans on his back, which troubled him in the first One-Day International against Zimbabwe at Harare.

Williams struggled to complete even the five overs that he did, before heading back to the dressing room.

Before leaving, Williams told the reporters, "About third or fourth ball I felt something go in my back. It was like somebody jabbed me with a needle. I was struggling for breath. The pain was radiating up. During my last over I was really gritting my teeth."

Williams has had a history of stress fractures, and as a result the decision of returning home immediately to prevent further damage.

The Australian team management has said that there would be no replacement in the squad for the final two One-Dayers.
