Zim name side for ODIs minus rebels

Saturday, May 22 2004

Zimbabwe have again named a second-string side for the preponed One-Day Internationals series against Australia next week, a sqaud which suffered a 5-0 and 2-0 drubbing at the hand of Sri Lanka in One-Day Internationals and Test matches respectively.

The only absentee from the side that played Sri Lanka in the One-Dayers is Blessing Mahwire, who after being reported with a suspect action, has been neglected by the selectors, despite the option of having him play for two months, a provisional time frame made available by the International Cricket Council (ICC) within which they can evaluate a reported bowler's action.

The fifteen rebel players, who a couple of days back agreed to return to One-Day cricket, have been sacked again, for not making themselves available for the now called off Test series against Australia. As a result, they do not feature in the side.

Zimbabwe squad:
Tatenda Taibu (captain, wicket-keeper), Dion Ebrahim, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Brendan Taylor, Elton Chigumbura, Alester Maregwede, Douglas Hondo, Tinashe Panyangara, Mark Vermeulen, Tawanda Mupariwa, Mluleki Nkala, Vusumuzi Sibanda, Edward Rainsford, Waddington Mwayenga.

Series schedule:
May 25 - 1st ODI - Harare
May 27 - 2nd ODI - Harare
May 29 - 3rd ODI - Harare
