Victoria recruit David Saker

Thursday, May 6 2004

The Victoria Bushrangers have been re-united with former Tasmanian fast bowler David Saker, except Saker will be Victorian coach Greg Shipperd's assistant coach.

Saker, 37, retired from the first class cricket scene in 2002-03 season with Tasmania.

Shipperd was orginally Victoria's stand-in coach following the death of David Hookes, but after winning the 2003/04 Pura Cup, he was signed as coach for the 04/05 and 05/06 seasons.

Saker made his debut for Victoria in 1994-95, playing 49 matches for the Bushrangers. After the 1999-00 season, Saker left Victoria for a new beginning with Tasmania, playing 23 matches for them.

When Saker retired after the 02/03 season, Saker took 247 first class wickets from 72 first class matches with Victoria and Tasmania.

Saker described the chance 'as being thrilled to further his knowledge on Shipperd's coaching panel'.
