Hussey to sign for Notts

Sunday, February 8 2004

English county Nottinghamshire are looking to sign an Australian national team batsman as their second overseas player for the coming season, leg-spinner Stuart MacGill being the first one.

However, they are trying to cut a deal with Victorian batsman David Hussey, to have him play for them, while the other signee is on Australian national duty for about a couple of months.

According to the county, both the players have verbally agreed to a contract, but haven't officially signed yet.

Hussey has performed immensely during the past two Australian first class seasons, since moving from Western Australia to Victoria.

Hussey has averaged 90+ in the current Australian season, and 73 overall since joining Victoria.

Steve Waugh was Notts' first choice, however he recommended Hussey for the job (on the back of Hussey's 212 not out against New South Wales this season), since he didn't want to leave Australia and his family for an entire English season.
