Waqar left out of India series

Sunday, February 8 2004

Former skipper Waqar Younis and wicket-keeper Rashid Latif have been left out of Pakistan's 22-member probables list for the forthcoming series at home against India. All-rounder Azhar Mahmood, and veteran leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed also don't find a place.

Waqar hasn't featured in a Pakistani squad, since his team's disastrous outing at the World Cup 2003.

The probables list includes off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaf, who hasn't played a single match since September last year, along with four new faces.

The four newcomers are Bazid Khan, son of former cricketer Majid Khan, Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan, Rao Iftikhar and Shadab Kabir.

The only surprise inclusion is that of Shabbir Ahmed, who despite being reported as having a suspect action during Pakistan's recent tour to New Zealand, has been announced as a member of the probables. He, however, will be working with Australian Daryl Foster, to improve upon the same.

The probables have been directed to report at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on February 23, with the camp starting the next day.

Pakistan 22-man probables list:
Imran Farhat, Taufeeq Umar, Yasir Hameed, Yousuf Youhana, Inzamam-ul-Haq (captain), Asim Kamal, Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Bazid Khan, Faisal Iqbal, Abdul Razzaq, Shoaib Malik, Saqlain Mushtaq, Danish Kaneria, Moin Khan (wicket-keeper), Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Sami, Shabbir Ahmed, Umar Gul, Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan, Rao Iftikhar, Shadab Kabir.
