Derbyshire lose Wright

Saturday, February 28 2004

Derbyshire have lost the services of Tasmanian Damien Wright for the forthcoming season, since the fast bowler has decided to pull out of his contract with the county, because of a knee injury.

Wright will undergo surgery at the end of the Australian first-class season, and resultingly could be out of action for upto as many as nine months.

Derbyshire are looking for a "bowling all-rounder" replacement for Wright. Coach David Houghton has ruled out the possibility of fellow countryman Heath Streak joining the club. Streak was thought to be the county's first preference, before they decided to sign Wright, because of Streak's international schedule.
