Carib Beer Cup 2004
Round 2

Day 2 Barbados vs Jamaica at Kingston, Jamaica.

Dave Bernard Jr. played for a fine 81 to stand up to Tino Best at his best and help Jamaica to 205 and first innings points. Yesterday Barbados was bowled out for 198 and Jamaica resumed today on 9/0.

The score quickly slipped to 19/2 when Bernard came to the crease and faced 100 balls in his innings whilst stroking 11 fours. Useful contributions came from Parchment (27), Lambert (21), Ventura (24) and Breese (17), but Bernard was the real star.

For Barbados, Best bowled with fierce aggression to end with 5/44 and Collins (2/42) and Benn (2/47) also chipped in nicely. Best has taken 20 wickets this season already, bowling in just 5 innings.

In reply Barbados closed on 54/2. Sherwin Campbell (0) was dismissed in the first over by Jerome Taylor, before Ryan Hinds (30) and Martin Nurse (20 not out) added 53 before Hinds was out just before the close to Ryan Cunningham. Nightwatchman Pedro Collins is there with Nurse and yet to score.

Day 2 West Indies 'B' v the Leeward Islands at Charlestown, Nevis.

The Leeward Islands failed to provide a decent follow-up to their massive batting performance against Kenya, as they were dismissed for 171 and closed play at 57/3 today. Resuming on 313/7, the West Indies 'B' effort folded for 339.

Jason Bennett reached 39 before being caught and bowled and the other overnight batsman, Patrick Browne reached 83 before coming down the track and having a ball deflect off his pad to slip from where he was run out carelessly.

The Leewards' batting effort never really got going as Stuart Williams (42) and Jason Williams (31) rescued the innings from 107/6 to 168 before the last three wickets fell for 3 runs. Opener Alex Adams was earlier dropped on 4 and 27 but made only 35 in the end. Centurions from the last game, Sylvester Joseph (13) and Carl Tuckett (14), did not prosper on this occasion.

Debutant left-arm spinner, Dennis George took 4/49 and pace bowler Dwight Washington got 2/33. Following on, the Leeward Islands slipped further into trouble, with Jason Bennett (2/27) taking the wickets of Alex Adams (9) and Sylvester Joseph (18). The Leewards still need 111 runs to avoid an innings defeat. Tonito Willett is unbeaten on 12 and nightwatchman Virgil Browne has 1.

West Indies 'B' 1st innings 339 ao
(Patrick Browne 83, Danza Hyatt 65, Jason Haynes 45, Jason Bennett 39)

Leeward Islands 2nd innings 57/3

(Jason Bennett 2/27)

Day 2 Kenya v Trinidad and Tobago at Scarborough, Tobago.

Dwayne Bravo ripped through the Kenyan batting lineup to have them limping to stumps at 147/8, still 110 runs behind the Trinidad and Tobago first innings 257. The current partnership between Maurice Ouma (31 not out) and Martin Suji (19 not out) is worth 52, but it has survived many balls beating the bat and some good LBW shouts.

Trinidad and Tobago resumed on 221/9 and Marlon Black (21 not out) and Davindra Krishna (19) managed to elevate the score to 257 before Ongondo grabbed his fifth wicket (5/60).

In the chase Kenya got off to a good start and didn't lose a wicket until the score reached 54, when Ravindu Shah (18) was caught behind off Jaggernauth. Kennedy Otieno top scored for Kenya on the day in reaching 39 before being run out, as the score was elevated to 95/4 when Bravo was introduced.

In a sensational spell of bowling Bravo snared Patel (19), Odumbe (11), Obuya (0) and F. Otieno (0), with the latter two coming in consecutive balls. At the end of the burst Bravo had figures of 4-4-0-4 but these were later rounded off to 15-7-18-4 after the stubborn late resistance. Of the other seamers Reyad Emrit was extremely impressive whilst Marlon Black looked a bit under par, admittedly having two catches dropped off his bowling early.

All day the Kenyans seemed reluctant to walk when dismissed. Even Tikolo, when he was bowled, walked slowly away.

Trinidad and Tobago 1st innings 257 ao (100 overs)
(Shazam Babwah 100, Dwayne Bravo 69)
(Peter Ongondo 5/60, Maurice Odumbe 3/63)

Kenya 1st innings 147/8 (80 overs)
(Kennedy Otieno 39, Maurice Ouma 31 not out)
(Dwayne Bravo 4/18, Amit Jaggernaut 2/38)

Day 2 Guyana v The Windward Islands at Roseau, Dominica.

The Guyana batting once again failed to fire, as the Windward Islands took a slim 12-run first innings lead on day two of the encounter. Continuing from the overnight 203, the Windwards managed only 1 more run before McGarrell had Cuffy for 6.

In reply Chattergoon (5) and Arjune (5) were out early to Cuffy but Deonarine (26) consolidated the score with Travis Dowlin. At 61/3 Deonarine departed to Shillingford and Cush went without scoring 10 runs later, to the same bowler.

Percival (9) and McGarrell (7) failed to do much and indeed, only Vishal Nagamootoo showed any real resistance in the lower order. Dowlin was eventually out for a well-played 78, run out. Cameron Cuffy finished with the best figures of 3/27 and Shane Shillingford the second best, with 3/54.

Batting again, the Windwards closed on 13/0 from the 7 overs faced. Devon Smith has 7 and Romel Currency 4.
