Carib Beer Cup 2004
Round 4

Day 1 Barbados vs West Indies 'B' at Bridgetown, Barbados.

A strong bowling effort from the West Indies 'B' managed to restrict table-toppers Barbados to 217 all out on the first day of their fourth round clash. The Bs won the toss and elected to bowl first, gaining immediate success as Sherwin Campbell (0) continued his disappointing season. After Nurse (5) was run out, Ryan Hinds (29) and Floyd Reifer (44) advanced the score to 47, when Hinds fell, followed by Graham (0) - 56/4.

Courtney Browne (26) and Antonio Mayers (20) both breached 20 but couldn't progress and it took an unbeaten 36 from Tino Best to push the score over 200. Ryan Austin (3/87) finished with the pick of the figures, with Kenroy Williams (2/22) and Dwight Washington (2/32) also contributing. Leading WI 'B' bowler, Jason Bennett took only 1/67.

The Bs' reply was off to a disastrous start, with Ramdass falling LBW to Collins without scoring and captain Jason Haynes (4) caught behind immediately after. Shawn Findlay (14 not out) and Danza Hyatt (5 not out) steadied the ship somewhat and stumps were drawn at 30/2.

Day 1 Leeward Islands v Guyana at Enmore, Guyana.

Due half-centuries by Stuart Williams and Shane Jeffers, the Leeward Islands closed day one of their match against the beleaguered Guyana at a decent score of 234/5. All the batsmen got starts, with the exception of Tonito Willett (1) but no one carried on the the big score.

Still, Stuart Williams remains unbeaten on 60 overnight in search of his 25th FC hundred. After electing to bat first, Alex Adams (47) and Shane Jeffers (62) added 62 for the first wicket upon which 16-year-old debutant Zaheer Mohamed took the first wickets of his 3/62 on the day.

Sylvester Joseph was run out for 32 and Stuart Williams was made to put on 82 runs with Carl Tuckett (26) before the latter was out just before the close. Wilden Cornwall partners Williams and is yet to score.

Day 1 Kenya v Jamaica at St. Georges, Grenada.

With Kenya listed as the home side for this fourth round clash, Maurice Odumbe lost the toss and was sent in to bat first. The rains troubled all day and ultimately allowed for only 34 overs of play.

The only casualties in Kenya's 82/2 are Ravindu Shah (runout for 34) and Brijal Patel (caught off Breese for 4). Kennedy Otieno (41 not out) and nightwatchman Martin Suji (2 not out) are the men to resume this morning.

Day 1 Windward Islands v Trinidad and Tobago at Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.

Playing their fourth consecutive home game this season, Trinidad and Tobago struggled in the face of some good bowling by their Windward counterparts. Imran Jan won the toss and elected to bat first, then he got out to Cuffy immediately without scoring.

Newcomers Ryan (21) and Sherwin Ganga (37) consolidated from 0/1 to 47/2 when the former was dismissed. Dwayne Bravo stroked a promising 46, but fell to a good catch from Devon Smith - one of three for the forgotten West Indian opener.

Shazam Babwah (4) didn't hang around very long and Gibran Mohammed was bowled whilst attempting a defensive shot, both wickets falling to Cameron Cuffy (4/32). Dave Mohammed came to the crease and looked to get in line with the ball, but made little impact, caught for 1 off the man of the day, Darren Sammy.

Aneil Kanhai took his chances and managed to escape to 30 before his luck ran out. The tail then wagged and the score was lifted from 151/7 to 203 all out. Darren Sammy finished with his second consecutive 5-wicket haul in this tournament and the second of his career. His figures read an impressive 18-3-37-5, but couldn't better his 5/20 taken in the last round.

Trinidad and Tobago fought back immediately with the ball, Marlon Black bowling stand-in wicketkeeper Romel Currency for 5. Currency took over behind the stumps during the Trinbagonian innings when Junior Murray went off the field with injury. Reyad Emrit had Wilkinson (0) caught by Ganga and Black got Smith slashing through the hands of Aneil Kanhai in the final over of play. Devon Smith has thus far accounted for 17 of the 24/2 score which the Windwards will resume on this morning.
