He sits in 2nd place on the leading test runscorers list , with 10927 runs.
He sits in 2nd place on the most test half centuries list , with 50 half centuries.
He sits in equal 2nd place on the most test centuries list , with 32 centuries.

Stephen captained Australia in 57 test matches , this is the 3rd most matches as captain in test history , after Allan Border (93) & Clive Lloyd (74).
Stephen won 41 matches as captain , the most wins in charge in test history.
Waugh won 71.93% of his games as captain , easily the best winning percentage of any captain in test history.
He also prides himself on the fact just 7 (12.28%) of his matches in charge ended in draws.
Just 2 of those draws (v New Zealand at Perth in 2001 & v India at Sydney in 2004) were not rain affected.

Sachin Tendulkar –

Sachin’s 241* is his highest test score & the second highest test score by an Indian , after VVS Laxman’s 281 against Australia in March 2001.

Sachin has now made 9265 test runs , he is the youngest man at 30 years of age to reach 9000 test runs , he is the second fastest in terms of innings batted to reach 9000 , West Indian Brian Lara achieving the feat in 2 innings less.

Sachin’s 241* was his 32nd test century , he now sits in equal second place on the all time most centuries list , he sits in 4th place on the most test runs list.

This is the 10th occasion Sachin has been named man of the match in a test match.

Sachin has now scored 1789 test runs against Australia , he has overtaken Allan Border as the leading run scorer in Australia v India test matches.

VVS Laxman –

This was Laxman’s 50th test appearance.

Laxman’s 178 was his 7th test century , his 4th against Australia.

After his partnership with Sachin Tendulkar , Laxman is now one of only 3 players in test history to share in 3 partnerships of 300+.
Don Bradman & Javed Miandad are the only others.

Anil Kumble –

Anil’s match haul of 12-279 is his first 10 wicket hall outside of the subcontinent.

Anil’s haul takes him past Waqar Younis & Malcom Marshall on the highest test wicket takers list , he now sits in 10th place with 382 wickets at an average of 28.3.

The wicket of Matthew Hayden was Anil’s 50th against Australia , he now has 61 wickets in 10 tests against the Aussies.

This was Anil’s 23rd haul of 5 wickets in an innings & his 5th hall of 10 in a match.

8/141 is Anil’s 2nd best innings bowling analysis , 10/74 against Pakistan being his best.

Justin Langer –

Justin’s 117 was his 17th test century & third against India.

Justin also moved past 5000 test runs in the 2nd innings.

Simon Katich –

Simon’s 125 was his 1st test century & 24th first class century.

Matthew Hayden –

This was Matthew Hayden’s 50th test match.

Ricky Ponting –

Ricky will become the 42nd man to captain Australia in test cricket , he will be the first Tasmanian.

Virender Sehwag –

Virender brought up his 1500th test run during this match.

Other –

Sachin Tendulkar & VVS Laxman’s partnership of 353 is a new Indian record for the 4th wicket , it is the 2nd highest partnership in Indian test history , Laxman has been involved in the 2 highest Indian partnerships.

The total match attendance of 189,989 for this match is the 2nd highest ever for a Sydney test match.
