Amit Bhandari Gets Call Up

Sunday, January 11 2004

The Indian selectors have made a surprise move, but a positive move altogether. Promising young Delhi fast bowler, Amit Bhandari has been called up to Australia to strengthen India's stocks.

With the injury to spearhead Zaheer Khan and the dismal form and performances of Ashish Nehra, the Indian management have had plenty to worry about. Whilst the batting has been of top class, the bowling in this Australian tour has been relatively poor.

Only Mumbai's Ajit Agarkar and Karnataka's Anil Kumble have been the standout performers with the ball. Young rookies, Lakshmipathy Balaji and Irfan Pathan have been impressive, but not as fiery and successful as India would've liked.
Thus Amit Bhandari is getting another shot at International Cricket, a shot he deserves.

Bhandari made his ODI debut against Pakistan back in the Asia cup of 1999. After taking an expensive 2/75, Bhandari was discarded back into domestic cricket. In the four years he has been out of the game, Bhandari has developed into one of the most feared bowlers in the Indian Domestic Competition.

Bhandari, 25, has been a revelation for Delhi and India 'A' where he has put in matchwinning performances with the ball on a regular basis. Preperations are underway for Bhandari to be sent to Australia as soon as possible.
